AlleyCATS Alliance is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $21,795 by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. AlleyCATS Alliance will use the funds to create a cat story inspired journal collaborated by local seniors and youth.

This project will provide a unique opportunity for local Okanagan seniors and youth to work together on a creative endeavour and share poignant stories and memories about their experiences with cats and kittens in their lives. The stories, poems and anecdotes will be submitted by seniors and will serve as the inspiration for youth and senior artists to create paintings and drawings. These artworks will be photographed and included along with the stories in a unique writing journal.

The journal will be published and sold at local Okanagan art facilities and businesses. 100% of the sales will be used to raise funds for the rescued cats and kittens of AlleyCATS Alliance.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support organizations like the Alleycats Alliance Society through the New Horizons for Seniors Program. Local seniors and youth will team up for the Society’s fascinating project. The illustrated journal the Society aims to publish will help shed light on the endearing and significant role that adopted pets play in enhancing the well-being of conscientious seniors participating in the project.”

– The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development
